Velum Privacy Policy
1. Overview
Velum is a private dream journal and dream work application designed to help users record, organize, search, reflect on, and work with their dreams.
Dreams can contain highly personal, emotional, psychological, relational, spiritual, or sensitive material. Velum is designed with that sensitivity in mind. Our core privacy principle is simple:
This Privacy Policy explains what information Velum collects, what information is stored locally on your device, what information may be processed by third-party services during generation or account operation, how long information is retained, and what choices you have.
By using Velum, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
2. Scope of This Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to:
- The Velum mobile application.
- The Velum website and landing pages.
- Any Velum account, subscription, support, or related services.
- Any dream work, enrichment, interpretation, export, search, reminder, or app functionality provided through Velum.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party websites, services, payment processors, app stores, analytics providers, operating systems, or AI providers except where described below.
3. Information We Collect or Process
Velum may collect or process several categories of information depending on how you use the app.
3.1 Dream Data
Dream Data includes information you enter, dictate, save, edit, search, organize, or export in Velum, including but not limited to:
- Dream titles.
- Dream text.
- Voice-captured dream content after transcription.
- Dates and timestamps associated with dreams.
- Bookmarks or saved dreams.
- Dream summaries.
- Symbols, motifs, themes, emotions, people, places, and recurring patterns generated or saved in connection with a dream.
- Dream work outputs, including reflections, interpretations, dialogue results, association results, amplification results, re-entry results, compensation readings, structure analysis, or similar outputs.
- Any notes, edits, tags, or metadata you add to a dream.
3.2 Dream Work Intermediate Steps
Some Velum dream work methods may use a step-by-step question-and-answer flow or guided interaction to generate an output.
Unless otherwise stated inside the app:
- Intermediate question-and-answer steps are not stored as permanent dream records by Velum.
- Intermediate steps may be temporarily used during a generation session to produce the requested dream work output.
- Final dream work outputs may be saved locally if the user chooses to save or complete that dream work flow.
- Intermediate steps may be transmitted to an AI provider when required to generate the requested result.
3.3 Account Data
If Velum offers account-based features, subscriptions, login, sync, or user management, we may collect account-related information such as:
- Name or display name, if provided.
- Email address.
- Authentication identifiers.
- Account creation date.
- Subscription or entitlement status.
- App Store or payment platform purchase identifiers.
- Login metadata needed for security and account operation.
- User preferences associated with the account.
- Support messages and account-related correspondence.
Velum does not require you to include sensitive personal information in your account profile unless explicitly requested for a feature.
3.4 Device and Technical Data
Velum may collect or process limited technical data necessary to operate, secure, debug, and improve the app, including:
- Device type.
- Operating system version.
- App version.
- Language and region settings.
- Crash logs.
- Diagnostic logs.
- Performance data.
- Error messages.
- Basic usage events, if analytics are enabled.
- IP address or approximate location inferred from IP address when interacting with web servers, account services, analytics, or third-party infrastructure.
Technical data is used to maintain app reliability, troubleshoot issues, prevent abuse, and improve product quality.
3.5 Voice Capture Data
If you use voice capture mode, Velum may process audio or dictated speech in order to create a text dream entry.
Depending on the implementation:
- Audio may be processed locally by the device operating system.
- Audio or transcribed text may be processed by a third-party transcription provider.
- The resulting text may be saved as Dream Data locally on your device.
- Raw audio is not intended to be retained by Velum unless the app explicitly provides a recording storage feature and you choose to save it.
If third-party transcription is used, your audio or transcription may be subject to that provider’s privacy practices.
3.6 Website Data
When you visit the Velum website, we may collect or process standard website data, including:
- IP address.
- Browser type.
- Device type.
- Referring page.
- Pages visited.
- Approximate location inferred from IP address.
- Cookies or similar technologies, if used.
- Analytics events, if analytics are enabled.
- Contact form submissions, if you contact us through the website.
4. Local Storage of Dream Data
Velum is designed so that Dream Data and saved Dream Work Data are stored locally on your device unless a feature explicitly states otherwise.
This means:
- Your saved dreams are stored on your device.
- Saved dream work results are stored on your device.
- Your local archive remains on your device until you delete it, uninstall the app, erase your device, or otherwise remove the data through operating system or app controls.
- Velum does not intentionally maintain a centralized cloud database of your full dream archive unless a future sync or backup feature is introduced and clearly disclosed.
You are responsible for maintaining access to your device and any backups or exports you choose to create.
5. AI Processing and Third-Party Generation Services
Velum may use third-party AI providers, including Claude or similar services, to generate dream enrichment, summaries, symbolic analysis, reflections, dream work outputs, or other app-generated content.
When you request an AI-assisted feature, Velum may send relevant input to the AI provider, which may include:
- The dream text.
- Selected dream metadata.
- Relevant symbols, themes, emotions, or prior generated context.
- User-provided answers during a dream work flow.
- Method instructions needed to generate the output.
Velum uses this processing to provide the requested feature.
Velum does not sell your Dream Data to AI providers.
Velum does not authorize third-party AI providers to use your Dream Data for advertising.
Third-party AI providers may process prompts, inputs, outputs, and technical metadata according to their own terms, data processing agreements, retention practices, and security policies. Where possible, Velum will use provider settings designed to limit training, retention, or reuse of user content.
Because AI processing requires transmitting data outside your device, you should not use AI-assisted features with content you do not want processed by a third-party service.
6. How We Use Information
Velum may use information for the following purposes:
- To provide the app and its core features.
- To save, display, edit, search, filter, bookmark, and export dreams.

- Use your Dream Data for third-party advertising.
- Publish your dreams.
- Share your dream archive with other users.
- Store your full dream archive on Velum-controlled servers by default.
- Save dream work intermediate Q&A steps as permanent dream records unless the app explicitly allows saving them and you choose to do so.
- Access your local dream archive manually except where technically necessary for support, legal compliance, debugging, or operation of a feature you request.
8. Legal Bases for Processing
Where applicable law requires a legal basis for processing personal information, Velum may rely on the following bases:
- Performance of a contract: To provide the app, account, subscription, and requested features.
- Consent: For optional features such as notifications, voice capture, analytics, or AI-assisted processing where consent is required.
- Legitimate interests: To secure, maintain, debug, improve, and operate Velum.

9. Retention of Information
9.1 Dream Data and Saved Dream Work Data
Dream Data and saved Dream Work Data are stored locally on your device until you delete them, delete the app, erase your device, or otherwise remove the data.
Velum does not control all copies that may exist in device backups, operating system backups, exports, screenshots, shared files, or third-party storage locations chosen by the user.
9.2 Dream Work Intermediate Steps
Dream work intermediate Q&A flow steps are not stored as permanent records by Velum.
They may be used temporarily during the generation session and may be transmitted to an AI provider as needed to produce the requested output.

- Respond to support requests.
- Maintain business, tax, security, and legal records.

9.5 Logs, Analytics, and Diagnostics
Technical logs, analytics, crash reports, and diagnostic information may be retained for a limited period appropriate to security, debugging, analytics, and operational needs.
Retention periods may vary depending on the tool, service provider, severity of issue, legal obligations, and operational requirements.
9.6 Backups
Some information may remain in backups for a limited period after deletion. Backup copies are generally overwritten or deleted according to backup schedules and are not used for ordinary production access.
10. Deletion and User Control
You may delete individual dreams, dream work outputs, bookmarks, or other local records through the app where those controls are available.
You may also remove local app data by deleting the app from your device, subject to the behavior of your operating system, device backups, cloud backups, and any exported files.
If Velum offers account deletion, you may request account deletion through the app or by contacting us at hello@dreamvelum.com.
Deletion requests may not remove:
- Data stored only on your own device if we cannot access it.
- Data contained in your own backups or exports.
- Information already processed by third-party services according to their policies.
- Records we must retain for legal, security, fraud prevention, accounting, dispute resolution, or operational reasons.
- Aggregated or de-identified data that no longer identifies you.
11. Exporting Data
Velum may allow you to export your dreams and dream work results.
Exported files are controlled by you. Once exported, Velum cannot control how those files are stored, shared, copied, uploaded, emailed, backed up, or processed by other applications or services.
You are responsible for protecting exported dream archives.
12. Lock Screen and Local Security
Velum may include a Lock Screen or similar privacy protection feature designed to help protect your dream archive from casual or unwanted access.
This feature is intended as an additional privacy layer, but it is not a guarantee of complete security.
Device-level security remains important. You should use a strong device passcode, biometric lock, operating system updates, and secure backup practices.
Velum is not responsible for unauthorized access resulting from lost devices, compromised device accounts, shared passcodes, screenshots, screen recordings, backups, malware, jailbroken devices, or operating system vulnerabilities.
13. Notifications and Morning Reminders
If you enable morning reminders or notifications, Velum may send local or push notifications to help you remember to record dreams.
Notification content may be visible on your device lock screen depending on your device settings.
You can control notifications through the app or your device settings.

15. Analytics and Crash Reporting
Velum may use analytics or crash reporting tools to understand app performance, diagnose bugs, and improve reliability.
Where possible, analytics should be configured to avoid collecting full Dream Data. However, diagnostic data may sometimes include limited contextual information related to an error, depending on the implementation.
We will make reasonable efforts to avoid intentionally collecting dream text in analytics or crash logs.
